Category Installation
Question I need to install ServletExec on my Windows OS as an unattended (silent) installation. How do I do this?
Answer In order to install ServletExec 6.x or 5.x as a silent/unattended installation, perform the following steps:
  1. Create a response file by running the installer with the following options:
    ServletExec_AS_60.exe /r /f1"C:\temp\setup.iss"
  2. Then run the installer in silent mode by executing:
    ServletExec_AS_60.exe /s /f1"C:\temp\setup.iss"

Notes:

  • There is no space after /f1
  • The above steps work with SE 6.x and SE 5.x (any configuration).
  • The path to the .iss file and the name you give to that .iss file may be anything you wish.

In order to install ServletExec 4.x as a silent/unattended installation, perform the following steps:

  1. Launch the ServletExec windows installer so that the installer data is extracted to disk.

  2. Go to <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp and look for a folder that was just recently created and contains a Disk1 subfolder. The Disk1 folder contains a copy of the extracted installer so copy the Disk1 folder to someplace else.

  3. Cancel the installer. Note that this will delete the extracted installer data from the Document and Settings folder. That's why you needed to make a copy of it in the previous step.

  4. Using a DOS window, go to the Disk1 folder and launch Setup.exe with the -r option. This will record the responses in a file called Setup.iss and place it in the Windows or WINNT folder.

  5. Move Setup.iss to the same directory as Setup.exe.

  6. Run Setup.exe with the -s option. This will run InstallShield in silent mode using the responses from Setup.iss. The results of the install will be logged in Setup.log.
