BlueDragon 3.0 Released
CFML now Deployable on BEA WebLogic, Using BlueDragon 3.0
Alpharetta, GA - September 9, 2002 - New Atlanta Communications, a leading producer of server-side Java products, is pleased to announce the immediate availability of BlueDragon 3.0, the newest release of its Java-based product family for deploying ColdFusion® Markup Language (CFML) web applications onto standard Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) platforms. Commercially available now, BlueDragon 3.0 facilitates the simple and portable deployment of CFML pages as standard J2EE components onto BEA WebLogic and other standard J2EE servers. In addition, CFML pages can be deployed as compiled binaries, protecting any intellectual property contained within CFML source code.
BlueDragon 3.0 Offers Portable CFML/J2EE Migration
Using BlueDragon's simple "Drag, Drop and Deploy" approach, developers can easily:
- Package portable CFML applications within standard J2EE Web ARchive (WAR) and Enterprise ARchive (EAR) files;
- Drop and deploy compact and portable archives onto BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, and other standard J2EE deployment platforms, without having to install proprietary ColdFusion Server software; and
- Deploy CFML pages as compiled binaries instead of CFML source, thereby protecting intellectual property.
CFML applications can also be migrated to hybrid CFML/JSP page architectures, integrating CFML with J2EE technologies such as EJBs, JSPs and Servlets, among others.
BEA Star Partnership
In response to growing industry need for CFML-on-J2EE solutions, New Atlanta has entered into partnership with BEA Systems, Inc. As a BEA Star Partner, New Atlanta now delivers CFML deployment capabilities to BEA clients looking to migrate CFML applications to WebLogic. "With BlueDragon, WebLogic customers can now easily transition their CFML applications to take advantage of the standardization, robustness and scalability offered by WebLogic Server - something that was not possible before," said Vince Bonfanti, President of New Atlanta Communications. "As a BEA Star Partner, New Atlanta is committed to offering the best CFML solution for the WebLogic Platform."
The BlueDragon 3.0 Product Family
With BlueDragon 3.0, organizations have a choice of products sized to fit their needs: BlueDragon Server, BlueDragon Server JX or BlueDragon for J2EE Application Servers. All BlueDragon products are CF5 compatible. CFMX feature implementations are currently under development. All BlueDragon versions utilize a highly optimized, high-performance caching architecture that delivers consistent "in-memory" page rendering performance and scalability. BlueDragon also includes an intuitive administrative interface that simplifies the configuration and deployment of CFML within standard J2EE web applications.
- BlueDragon 3.0 Server is a standalone CFML application server implemented in Java that is a complete alternative to Macromedia's ColdFusion Server. Its architecture is based on New Atlanta's award-winning, standards-based ServletExec® web application server and includes New Atlanta's J2EE-certified driver for Microsoft SQL Server, JTurbo®. Additional drivers to other popular database systems like Oracle are also included.
- BlueDragon 3.0 Server JX adds additional functionality to BlueDragon 3.0 Server, including support for Java CFX tags and the ability to deploy hybrid CFML/JSP web applications.
- BlueDragon 3.0 for J2EE Application Servers is a CFML
runtime module that can be packaged within a standard J2EE archive.
These compact and portable archives allow CFML to be deployed on any
standard J2EE application server platform:
- without source code modification;
- without revealing intellectual property; and
- without installing an additional server.

BlueDragon supports all major J2EE application servers including BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, Sun ONE (iPlanet), Oracle 9iAS, New Atlanta ServletExec and Macromedia JRun.
