ServletExec 2.0 Released

JavaServer Pages (JSP) and Apache Server support

Alpharetta, Georgia - November 1, 1998 - New Atlanta Communications, LLC is proud to announce the final release of ServletExecTM 2.0 for Microsoft IIS, Netscape FastTrack & Enterprise servers, the Apache Server, and all major Mac OS web servers. ServletExec allows these web servers to host servlets based on the JavaTM Servlet API.

Major new features in ServletExec 2.0 are support for the Apache Server on Windows NT and UNIX, and support for JavaServer PagesTM (JSP) as defined by Draft Specification 0.91. In addition to these key new features, ServletExec 2.0 contains numerous minor feature enhancements, performance improvements, and bug fixes.

Servlets are Java-based alternatives to traditional CGI scripts and proprietary C/C++ web server extensions. Servlets provide better performance and scalability than CGI scripts; they are easier to implement and more reliable than C/C++ extensions. There is growing industry awareness of the compelling advantages of server-side Java and the Java Servlet API.

JavaServer Pages (JSP) allows web developers to use Java as a server-side scripting language, similar to Active Server Pages (ASP) or LiveWire (server-side JavaScript). JSP offers significant benefits over other server-side scripting technologies because JSP pages are compiled into Java servlets that are executed by the server at run-time. In addition to the well-known benefits of the Java programming language, executing compiled JSP pages provides significant performance benefits over interpreted solutions such as ASP and LiveWire.

"With the release of version 2.0, ServletExec continues to be the leading solution for hosting servlets on commercial web servers, and now also supports the popular Apache web server," said Vince Bonfanti, President of New Atlanta Communications. "With its rich feature set, broad platform support, high performance, and outstanding reliability, ServletExec sets the standard by which other servlet implementations are measured."
