These instructions apply only to ServletExec 5.0 with ArcIMS 9.0, using a version of the Apache web server that is supported by ArcIMS 9.0. on a supported Unix operating system.
Note: In order to understand which versions of Apache are supported on which brands/versions of Unix (Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, etc...) you should access the System Requirements area of the ESRI website.

The instructions at this website are provided by New Atlanta Communications.
At the time of this writing, ESRI does not provide its own steps for installation and configuration of ServletExec and ArcIMS on a Unix platform.
However, several Unix platforms are supported... so in the event that they add such steps later,
a listing of all such ESRI knowledge base articles can be found here.

 

Use the Diagnostics tool to test your ArcIMS 9.0 installation:

a. Start Apache and ServletExec (if they are not already running).

b. Open <ArcIMS Installation Directory>/ArcIMS/Xenv/ArcIMS_Diagnostics/ArcIMS_Diagnostics.html in your browser.

c. The ArcIMS Diagnostics displays in a new browser window.
Select your web server protocol, type your web server name including domain, and type your port number. The default is 80.

d. Perform the tests:

• Test the ArcIMS Servlet Connector.
• Test the ArcIMS Application Server.

If both these tests are successful, then both the ArcIMS Servlet Connector running inside of ServletExec, and the ArcIMS Application Server are configured correctly. If you receive an error message, select the error number in the dropdown list and click View. The error number and a description display. Follow the instructions in the description to fix the problem and then try the Diagnostics tool again.
