Detailed Responses:

What is New Atlanta announcing?

New Atlanta is announcing today, at CFUnited Europe - a ColdFusion® Markup Language (CFML) technology exposition in London, U.K.- that they will be creating and distributing a free open-source Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) version of BlueDragon, their ColdFusion-compatible web application server.

Why is New Atlanta creating an open-source version of BlueDragon?

The decision is in direct response to community and customer feedback, who've seen most other web-scripting languages like JSP, PHP and ASP become commoditized as part of a free and/or open-source portion of various web application stacks.

In order for CFML to compete more effectively with other web-scripting languages, the time has come to commoditize and elevate CFML as a viable and freely available option for web application development and deployment on the Java platform.

Since 2001, New Atlanta has worked to create new and innovative features and platform versions of BlueDragon to meet the varying and diverse needs of the CFML community. This next logical step by New Atlanta ensures that CFML will become and forever remain a free web-scripting language option for web application deployments on the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) technology stack.

Will this new version of BlueDragon be full-featured?

Yes. This version will be nearly identical to the current commercial Java EE version of BlueDragon that has been deployed at corporations around the world. Minor differences will be clearly published, and will primarily be limited to the removal of a few embedded third-party commercial technologies. This mature technology base will offer high performance and scalability - from small virtual-hosted deployments to larger enterprise-scale deployments.

How will this open-source version of BlueDragon be licensed?

The free open source edition of BlueDragon will be released under the GNU General Public License Version 2 (GPLv2), the same license used by Sun for Java (OpenJDK), by MySQL, and by many other open source projects. Source code will be freely available, and the community will be invited and encouraged to freely participate in on-going maintenance and development activities. The GPL guarantees that BlueDragon source code and all future enhancements will be free forever.

New Atlanta plans to work aggressively to integrate and distribute BlueDragon with popular open source products and Linux distributions including, but not limited to: JBoss, Apache, Tomcat, MySQL, RedHat, Fedora, SuSe, and CentOS.

Will New Atlanta still sell BlueDragon?

New Atlanta remains steadfastly committed to the CFML market. This free open-source version of BlueDragon will fulfill a very large niche within the CFML community that wish to deploy new and existing CFML web applications for little or no cost on the Java EE technology stack. By serving an ever-increasing portion of the CFML community, New Atlanta looks to also grow its overall visibility and corresponding revenue.

New Atlanta will continue to further its success and competitive advantage on the .NET platform, in addition to launching a new series of product and services initiatives to help individuals and corporations migrate their existing technologies and skill sets to other technologies and platforms.

When will this new version of BlueDragon be available?

New Atlanta plans to deliver and market the open-source edition of BlueDragon at the CFUnited conference in Washington D.C. in June 2008.
